Lough Mask (Loch Measc) Distillery

If you are looking for a distillery in a stunning area of the country, look no further than Lough Mask Distillery, or Drioglann Loch Measc as they spell it in the Irish language. Hiding away in the lush green mountains that surround the shores of Lough Mask, this micro-distillery honors the local language and culture. 

The tour gives you a sense of the area’s distilling past. A historic photo of an illicit distilling operation and its owner providing a tour shows how bold local distillers were in the 19th century. As you walk through the distilling operation, you will learn how they make their double-distilled single malt, as well as their gin and vodka––the gin is infused with a variety of local botanicals. The whiskeys are being aged in European and American oak, with some peated whiskey expected in the future. The pandemic slowed operations, but whiskey production has returned to a consistent level as of 2022 and whiskey will be available for tasting in the near future.
