Kilbeggan Distillery

For the whiskey history buff, a visit to Kilbeggan is a treat. This distillery is a well-preserved time capsule that catapults you into the 19th century, when it was known as Locke’s Distillery. With a history that dates back to 1757, the combination of rich stories and the ability to walk in the footsteps of past distillers is an incredible experience. When John Teeling sold this distillery to Beam Global (now Beam Suntory) back in 2012, he counted it as one of the few regrets of his storied career; visiting, it’s not hard to see why––it’s a magical place.

The tour includes a walk through the historic distillery and the current small batch distillery. You will see the massive gears, water wheel, iron mash tuns, and fermenters. In the modern craft distillery, you will hear how two distillers work to keep the unique wooden mash tuns clean and the techniques used to produce the modern version of this working class style distillery. Who knows, you might even meet one of those distillers along the way.
