About Clonakilty Distillery
Whether you are starting or ending a trek along the Wild Atlantic Way, a great stopping off point is the town of Clonakilty. And while you are in town, there is a friendly and welcoming distillery waiting for you to visit. Here, not only will you get a foothold on the history and tastes of the region, but you will also enjoy Clonakilty Distillery’s award-winning hospitality. Everyone from the tour guides to the distillers are happy and willing to answer questions about the distillery, the town, and their Irish whiskey.
Though the distillery is situated in town, the inspiration for it actually came from the Scully family’s 320-year-old farm. Nestled on the south coast near Galley Head Lighthouse, the farm grows a heritage barley not seen in Ireland for over a century. While an amazing grain, its low yields drove accountants crazy, causing it to eventually disappear. Using a sample from the archives, Clonakilty has nurtured and grown enough grain to supply their future in-house distilled pot still and single malt whiskeys.
